Tom Paley
October 14, 2006
Tom Paley will present a program of songs and instrumentals, mainly American traditional music: ballads, blues, humorous songs, hoedowns, waltzes, and rags.
Tom grew up among the world of progressive politics and folk music in New York City in the 1940s. He began playing guitar in 1945 for square dances. Later he became interested in traditional folk music while listening to Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. He then performed in a duo with Woody Guthrie. Later, along with Mike Seeger and John Cohen, he formed the New Lost City Ramblers.
After leaving that group, he moved to Sweden where he began to play Swedish fiddle tunes. He eventually moved to England where he now resides.
There will probably be a number of opportunities for the audience to join in and sing the choruses of familiar songs. A fun evening is in store for all!
