Andean music specialists Edmond Badoux and Francy Vidal form the musical duo Chaskinakuy (Cha-ski-nock-wee), a word that translates from the Quechua language as "to give and receive, from hand to hand, among many."
Traversing vast musical territory, Chaskinakuy performs lively, traditional village music from the high elevations of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, northern Chile and Argentina on an extraordinary, museum-quality collection of regional wind, string and percussion instruments.
With flutes and panpipes of bamboo, bone and feathers; goatskin drums; 10-foot trumpet; mandolin and harp, this masterful duo transmits the compelling melodies and infectious rhythms of South America's high-mountain festivities.
Since its founding, Chaskinakuy has performed in concerts, festivals and university lecture series across the US, in Canada, and in Switzerland, and has collaborated with music, theater and dance companies in California, New York and Pennsylvania.
Chaskinakuy was three times awarded the California Arts Council's Multi-Cultural Grant and was selected for six seasons in the Council's Touring & Presenting Program.
Deeply rooted in mountains that rise well above 10,000 feet, this is music with an attitude, not to be missed!
